Ballet for ages 3 through 18
A proficient dancer requires a foundation in Ballet.We therefore encourage all dance students to receive Ballet training to learn the fundamentals of body alignment, flexibility, balance, and grace. Our ballet instruction is based on the Russian Vagonova technique; our choreography, which reflects this classical technique, is set to contemporary music, making it appealing to both students and audiences. In our Ballet training program, barre work begins at age 6 (grade 1). At this level students wear a uniform and develop the discipline required to train as serious dancers. (Our pre-Ballet program begins at age 3, designed to nurture a love of dance and to teach the basic vocabulary and steps that form the foundation of dance.) Our students begin pointe work when indicated by their teacher, thus assuring readiness and safety. At age ten, students are encouraged to take several ballet classes per week. Students have the opportunity to perform in our annual spring dance concert; additional performance opportunities include Ballet Production Study and "Nuts About the Nutcracker."
Children discover the world of dance as a playful and joyful experience. Emphasis is on musicality, grace, good fundamental technique, and positive self-image.
