Now in its fourth year at Enchanted Garden Studios, this fun-filled program, led by Clista Townsend and her team of educators and theater professionals provides young people with intensive training in acting & improvisation, voice and speech, dance and movement, stage combat and mask work, and more. Using a Shakespeare play as a jumping off point, the teachers and students create a version based on popular culture which is performed at the end of each two-week session. Each production is edited for length, remains true to Shakespeare's original language (not modified or modernized), and often incorporates music and dance. Two sessions remain for Summer 2010: SESSION III (July 26-Aug. 7): "Tempest" -- set in a world of wizards, dream creatures, magic romance -- for ages 9-14; and "Hamlet" -- set in a Matrix- techno-futuristic world -- ages 15-18. Also available for ages 9-18: Audition and Screen Acting Intensive -- students create and star in a short movie as well as learn basic skills required for auditions and screen acting. August 9-21. Tuition for each Shakespeare and Screen Acting session $750. For more information or to enroll please phone 203-431-3350.
