

Music Summer Camp
Get ready to develop the whole musician! In this one week intensive camp designed for the young beginner through advanced pianist, students will be a part of a stimulating, focused, and fun environment. Enrichment through exploration and intensive interaction with faculty and fellow students will spur on development and growth. Students will participate in instructional sessions on technique, general music, activities, duet piano repertoire, music history, and music games. In the beginning of the week, pianists will pair up to learn a short four-handed piece. Every student will perform a solo and duet at their concert. The camp dates are Aug. 23-27, with the concert on Saturday, Aug. 28. Young beginners (ages 7-12)(Prerequisite: pianists need to have completed the primer level of a method series and have a general understanding of grand staff) meet from 9:00AM- 1:00PM and intermediate/advanced pianists (ages 13-18 or based on ability) meet from 2:00PM-6:00PM, Monday through Friday. Be prepared to grow as a musician! In this two-week jazz intensive, participants will play together as a jazz ensemble under the guidance of our highly skilled and experienced music faculty. Participants will listen to recordings and watch video footage of great jazz musicians, learn to play jazz rhythms and play familiar music in a jazz style. Areas of focus will include Jazz theory, improvisation, ensemble playing, history, and appreciation. The program will culminate in the production of a CD including participation in the recording process. In a joyful and nurturing environment, children sing, dance, and play instruments in a structured music time. they also have snacks, stories, art, and creative play -- jumping, climbing, balancing, dress-ups, puppet theater, cars, trucks, trains, dinosaurs, dolls, play kitchen, easels with paint, markers, stampers, and chalk -- all encouraging development of imagination, physical and social skills. Children can be dropped off or stay with a parent/caregiver. Mid-June through end of August. Phone 431-3350 to register in advance. $20 per class. No charge for younger siblings when parent remains.

Off-Broadway Kids Jr. Summer
(grades K-1)
Led by "Ozzie" Ashburn, one of the area's most dynamic acting teachers, children have a great time putting on a show at the end of each two-week session. Don't worry if you can't make it every day of the two-week sessions. We can still create a character just right for you. Each production uses bits of the titles' music to create new characters and story lines specially designed for the ages and interest of the children in each group. This summer's performances will be Session 1: "Into the Woods & Out of the Woods" (exploring characters and music from the show "Into the Woods") June 28-July 2; July 5-9th; Session 2: "The Wizard Is In" (exploring "wizardous" characters, magic, and music) July 12-16; July 19-23; Session 3: "Westside Stories" (exploring music from the show "Westside Story" and other musical conflicts) July 26-30, Aug. 2-6; Session 4: "Lion King" Aug. 16-27. Tuition $350 for two weeks. 10% discount when enrolling in two or more sessions. Kindergartners can combine this with Theme camps in the morning. for students who take all three sessions. Summer Judy's Music

In an extraordinary room designed by a Jim Henson artist, children and parents start each class with singing, dancing, and instrument playing. Structured musical activities are followed by play --crawling, climbing, jumping, balancing, bouncing, using art materials -- developing physical and social skills. The class ends with more music. Taught since 1989 by Judy Hirt- Manheimer, founder of the Enchanted Garden. $10 per class and siblings come free in honor of the program's 20th anniversary. In this two week rock intensive, aspiring rockers will play together as a bands under the guidance of our experienced and encouraging faculty. In addition, they will learn rock history, technique, and theory through discussion of audio and video materials, and will have the opportunity to write their own songs. The program will culminate in a performance that will be professionally recorded. CD of the show provided at no extra cost.
